Guy-Paul Treefall’s future could be hanging in the balance, pending survey results

A public survey could lead to the downfall of Guy-Paul Treefall, the wooden lumberjack and highway mascot of the Town of Iroquois Falls. He’s been on duty for about 15 years on Hwy. 11 near Porquis.

I.F. mayor Tory Delaurier says the statue needs more than $26-thousand in restoration work. Three questions make up the survey: Leave Guy-Paul where he is and pay for the repairs; repair him and move him elsewhere; or do away with him altogether.

“So I’m getting different feedback right now,” remarks the mayor. “At the end of the day, the council’s going to make an educated decision and we’ll go from there in a few weeks.”

Delaurier says town hall is looking into grants to pay for the repairs. And while council has the authority to make the final decision, it wants public input.

“We’re doing a survey, but council will make the final decision. That survey can say one thing or another thing, but we want to see what people have to say in that survey also, because there’s comments also available.”

The survey is on the town’s Facebook page and website.
