Timmins hosts first conference aimed at ending opioid abuse across Canada

Small to mid-size Canadian cities are sending representatives to Timmins this week…to begin development of the first municipally-led standards for drug abuse treatment, harm reduction, recovery, prevention and enforcement. Between January 2016 and September 2023, more than 42,000 Canadians died from apparent opioid use.

The delegations arrive Thursday evening and get down to work all day Friday and Saturday with presentations, panel- and table discussions. It’s all under the auspices of the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Addiction, a creation of the federal parliament.
