Access Transit returns next week

After more than a month of being sidelined by a bus with severe mechanical problems, Access Transit gets back on the road next week in Iroquois Falls, with a van as a temporary measure.

“We are customer number 14,000 on the list for a new transmission,” Access Transit chair Jackie Rivest says. She adds that the bus won’t be ready any sooner than December.

The new van isn’t exactly accessible, but Rivest says if you can get into and out of your wheelchair without too much difficulty, you can use it.

“So they can sit in our van and then we can fold their wheelchair and put it into the van.”

The service resumes next Tuesday, August 6th.

“We’re going to be working three days a week,” Rivest emphasizes. “We’re going to check our stats and everything and that’s going to determine (whether) we’re going to go five days a week. But at this time, we’re doing three days a week.”

Rivest says community financial support like donating recyclables is as important as ever for Access Transit.
