This week’s Cochrane history feature is one that will make you say “Has it really been 25 years?”
The June 11th, 1999 issue of the Cochrane Times carried confirmation that the Loeb grocery store in the mall on the west highway was closing the next day.
The communications director for Loeb’s parent company said the closure was because of rent expiring and the store not being profitable. He said the 22 employees would be paid until the 26th, and then could be relocated to other operations as close to home as possible.
The store opened in January, 1980 as P&G IGA, one of the first tenants in the mall.
