A loosely organized singles club has been started in Cochrane.
Pet groomer Diana Hotte says her male and female clients kept saying how there’s nothing for single adults to do in town. So she, who is also single, decided to create a safe environment where they can meet.
The group meets every second Friday at the 49th Parallel Kitchen and Bar on Third Street, between 7:00 and 9:00pm. *NOTE: Updated 6:30pm Thursday, this week’s event has been moved to Saturday due to a private event at 49th Parallel.
“You can be there earlier if you want, just to see who’s there, kind of scope the place out,” Hotte explains, “and if you’re not comfortable then, maybe come back another time when you comfortable, or if I get up and move around and if you want to talk to me privately, that’s fine too. I know a lot of people are shy.”
Hotte is the lady wearing the sparkly pink cowboy hat.
Once it’s really going, the group could organize free events for members, outside of Friday night.
“Maybe once we become a little more established, we can start doing bigger things like renting a bus and going to a concert together, or renting a bus to go to a casino,” says Hotte, “because Cochrane has only so many things it can do, right?”
Volunteering as a group is another possibility.
