Cochrane history: Planning for a boardwalk

We’re taking a walk on the Lake Commando boardwalk this week, as we examine Cochrane history.

The Cochrane Times issue of May 28th, 1999 reported on the effort to have the boardwalk built that summer.

Phil Hayes of the Community Development Corporation was at a horticultural society meeting, asking for advice and support. He wanted to know what low-maintenance shrubs and flowers could be planted to beautify the boardwalk.

Horticultural society members were concerned that vandalism of the plants would happen, and suggested roses and shrubs that would deter it.

Thanks to the Cochrane Public Library for the use of its archives for our weekly history feature.
