Cochrane history: The Tim Hortons outlet has been here 30 years

Yes, it was 30 years ago that the Tim Hortons out on Cochrane’s west highway was built.

As we look back at local history this week, we check out the Cochrane Times from April 16th of that year. Here’s an excerpt from the ftont-page article.

“’The contract is signed with M.J.Labelle for the ground work. It will begin immediately,’ said Rick Sicard, sales manager for Labelle’s. ‘The big shovel is there now.’”

“It’s a Tim Horton Model 3000 restaurant and features a drive-through.”

Also on that front page of the Times, a photo of the Gardiner Ferry, ready for another season crossing the Abitibi River north of town.

As every week, we get our local history feature from the archives at the Cochrane Public Library.  All you need to browse through them is a library card.
