ENVIRONMENTALISTS THREATEN FORESTRY

The town of Hearst has asked the riding’s MPP to attend a luncheon to speak on the looming Caribou Conservation Plan coming to northern communities, including Cochrane.  Gilles Bisson says the plan hasn’t moved either way in at least a year but Hearst is being pro-active with its questions and its concerns.  Bisson says southern environmentalist groups may not fully understand northerner’s connection with the environment.  He says all parties are concerned about the well being of Caribou, but that the proposed plan will do nothing to protect the species who do not live within 500 kilometers of the proposed forestry-ban zone.  Bisson believes the Caribou Conservation plan will do immeasurable damage to forestry across the north.
