Town of Cochrane to hold meetings in new year regarding residential lots sales

Progress continues on a proposal by the town of Cochrane to offer $10 residential lots. During a recent council meeting, JL Richards and Associates reported  the best way to offer the incentive is to develop a Community Improvement Plan.

One part of that project is to include community consultation with a number of groups. It’s something that mayor Peter Politis says work in that area will begin in earnest in the new year.

“Business and commercial sectors, will be meeting with the general public on open discussion ad dialogue,” he said. “We’ll be meeting with real estate brokers in the community and really making a conservative effort between January and March to have dialogue and discussion to continue to bring everyone along with us.”

Several communities in the region already have community improvement plans in place. Jason Ferrigan of JL Richards says the process takes about 16-20 weeks to complete.

“That’s why that government has created an exception to the bonusing rule so you have a vehicle you can use and follow an open and transparent process to make those strategic decisions as council to fuel future growth within your community,” he said.
