The Moose FM Community Cares Radiothon is about a week away next Friday, December 1st. The 12 hour radiothon from 6 am to 6 pm raises money for the MICS Group of Health Services Foundation to purchase medical equipment for facilities in Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.
Foundation coordinator Ainsley Lougheed says this year’s goal is to purchase of three portable ultrasound units.
“So for staff we actually have a few doctors looking to improve their practice and this machine will help them do that,” she said. “For our patients that come to the Emerg department these machines are used to do quick assessment on things like heart health, fetal health and help to guide biopsies. There’s all sorts of uses for them.”
Lougheed (Law-heed) hopes everyone will give generously to help support the project.
“We’ve been doing fundraising on this since August so our monthly 50-50 draw the proceeds have been going to this piece of equipment,” she said. “We’re hoping the radiothon is just the icing on the cake to get us the rest of the way.”
