New manager brings changes to Cochrane Food Bank and Thrift Store

There’s a new manager at the Cochrane Food Bank and Neighbour-to-Neighbour Thrift Store – and changes are already noticeable.

There are special events coming up, and Ardis Chedore says among the changes likely in the New Year are Saturday hours, as well as changes to the weekday hours.

“We’re talking about more consistent hours throughout the week, so instead of having Friday close at 3:00, we’ll be closed at 4:00,” she says. “And then we also are talking about things in the future, like having an appliance section.”

Already online is an auction on the food bank’s Facebook page. Chedore says it offers unusual, seldom seen items donated to the thrift store.

“We had a woodburning picture there that was done professionally, it was beautiful;” she outlines, “antique Depresseion-era glasses and the whole set of them. We do also have a lot of – I’m going to call them knick-knacks – but collectors’ items.”

Everything sold from the thrift store supports the entire operation.

Audio of our interview below also discusses upcoming events and how high schoolers can get volunteer hours at the food bank.
