Cochrane history: 1953 hospital campaign

In Cochrane history. we go back to 70 years ago yesterday – October 22nd, 1953 — when the Northland Post carried a report about the $100,000 hospital campaign nearing one third of the way to its target.  Payments and  pledges were reported by campaign director, Mrs. Grace Tilley.

“Donations of the past week ranged form $1,000 cash and $1,000 pledged from A. E. Wicks Ltd. There was an encouraging number of donations in the $100 and over class,” said the newspaper report.

“Several additional donations from organizations and unions were received. The largest in this category was announced at today’s luncheon meeting of the Kiwanis.”

Club president Earl McVittie said it was an immediate payment of $1,000.00 dollars and another $500 before the end of the year.
