The Cochrane Crunch beat the Timmins Rock 5-3 in Saturday’s home game at the Tim Horton Event Centre. The Crunch’s next home game is this Friday against Powassan.
Winnipeg lost to Buffalo 4-2 in NHL play. In other games, Florida edged Edmonton 2-1 and Washington hammered the Ottawa Senators 7-1. In that game, Alex Ovechkin scored his 500th and 501st goals of his career, making him only the 43rd NHL player to reach the 500-club.
In curling, Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario has repeated as the Skins champion. Jacobs did it by beating the other Brad, Brad Gushue (GOO-shoe) of Newfoundland. On the women’s side, Mantoba’s Jennifer Jones was declared the Skins champion after defeating Edmonton’s Val Sweeting rink.
