Annual Remembrance Day poem and poster contest in progress

Remembrance Day is less than two months away, and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 89 in Cochrane is promoting the annual poster and literary contest.

Youth education chair Ardis Chedore says it’s for all ages, kindergarten to Grade 12, with prizes at the branch, zone, district and provincial levels.

“If you win at provincial, you then have a chance to win a trip to Ottawa for a ceremony next year during November 11th,” she explains.

The deadline to enter a poem or poster on the topic of Remembrance is November 8th. Chedore says all entries will be displayed at the local observances on the 11th.

“So you can talk about something that’s dear to your heart,” Chedore outlines, “like a family member’s experience, grandfather, it can even be someone who’s currently serving. You can also just do it on the general topic of Remembrance.”

Information will be shared soon with local schools.  It’s also in the audio of our interview.
