DANGEROUS WATERS

The Mattagami River is unpredictable this time of year when it comes to ice safety.  Because of the moving current, the ice could be thick in one spot, and not in another.  As temperatures warm up this week, the Timmins Police and the OPP are making an effort to keep sledders, ice anglers and outdoor enthusiasts safe on the river.  Spokesperson for the Timmins Police, Kate Cantin, says to make sure you check the thickness before putting any weight on the ice.  Cantin says to keep yourself safe when ice fishing or snowmobiling, tell someone where you’re going to be.
