NEW CROSSWALK LAW

One of the new laws which has come into effect in 2016 aims to protect children, crossing guards and other pedestrians.  The new law states that drivers may not proceed through an intersection specifically marked or with a crossing guard on duty until all pedestrians have left the road completely.  Detachment Commander for the Kapuskasing and Hearst OPP, Mike Pilon says anytime there is a new law in effect there is a period of education for drivers.  For drivers in northern communities like ours this means employing extra caution, especially in school zones.   The pedestrian must be allowed to reach the curb and step out of the roadway before you proceed.
