Coming to IFSS next Wednesday at high noon: ‘High School Unmusical Goes West’

The acting talents of drama students of Iroquois Falls Secondary School will be on stage next week, with the re-work of a play written by an IFSS drama class about 12 years ago.

Actor and co-re-writer Molly Cox says “High School Unmusical Goes West” is different from the first two times a version was on stage

“It doesn’t have all the main characters and like the same plot,” the Grade 12 student explains. “We definitely changed it around a lot and like made new, more exciting plot points.”

That plot revolves around not a teen love triangle, but a love square.  There’s a nerdy guy in love with a cool girl; and cool guy, nerdy girl.

Cox plays the nerdy guy’s Mom.

Teacher Barb Cornthwaite says there are no musical performances in it.

“So this is the second time we’ve done it since then. But each time, it’s been very different,” she claims. “This class decided to kind of have a western feel to it. So instead of cheerleaders, there are line dancers. It’s a lot of fun.”

There’s a matinee at the Boyle Auditorium at high noon next Wednesday, May 31st,  nd an evening performance Thursday, June 1st at seven.

Admission is by donation to the IFSS drama program.
