First ever Great Canadian Slowmobile Rally in Cochrane this weekend

Cochrane is the hub tonight and tomorrow, for activities in support of the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund and the Water Keepers international charity.

Music lawyer and fundraiser Mark McMackin calls it the Great Canadian Slowmobile Rally. He.has done a lot of work with First Nations communities… and was a friend of Downie’s since their university days. McMackin says it all begins tonight at the Commando Pavilion, with music provided by a Tragically Hip cover band.

“We’ve got the Poets, a decent band Gordie Sinclair and Gord (Downie) himself said they were the best tribute band in Canada that they knew of.”

Tomorrow’s event starts at eight in the morning at the Polar Bear Habitat.

“And we’re having snowmobiles do a 309km rally to raise money for First Nations communities. Also for the provision of wells and drinking water to be implemented into some of these communities that could use it.”

Entry to both events is by donation or pledges.
