Carnival’s ‘main day’ coming up Saturday

Weekend number 1 of the Cochrane Winter Carnival is in the books, but the carnival itself is far from over.

It’s Thunderation Week, with a daily theme of TV shows from each of the past five decades.

The torchlight parade, bonfire and fireworks are Thursday night. And director of community services Jason Boyer calls Saturday “the main day”.

“We’ve got the parade and then the lake activities down on the lake.,” he says, “where I hope to see the community out as well, and enjoying themselves.”

Among those lake activities are the traditional polar bear dip, the bushwhacker survivor challenger, and wrapping up at night with a dance party on the lake.

Then Sunday has two derbies – the ice fishing derby and the demolition derby.

Boyer says the carnival winds down on Monday.

“We’ve got a free skate and free swim on Family Day at the Event Centre to kind of wrap everything up.”

The full carnival schedule is on the carnival’s website and Facebook page.
