Junior A hockey provides first night excitement for Iroquois Falls Winter Carnival

Cochrane’s winter carnival runs from Friday until Family Day Monday, February 20th.

And the Iroquois Falls carnival is March 10th to 19th.

Vice-chair Jamy Bernier says opening night features sliding and a bonfire behind the bowling alley; and inside the Jus (Jus) Jordan Arena, a Junior hockey game between the Timmins Rock and the Cochrane Crunch.

“We felt that bringing Jurnior A hockey back to Iroquois Falls was something that everybody would take a great liking to, with our community not having any form of Junior hockey since 2016,” the vice-chair explains.

“We reached out to the Cochrane Crunch, who are hosting the game and they were fantastic. Luckily enough, the league approved it to happen and the Timmins Rock accepted on their part, so we’re super excited for that to happen.”

A spirit competition will happen during the game… pitting minor hockey and ringette teams against groups from local dance studios.

Bernier calls this version of the carnival the biggest in recent memory. And it costs money, so committee members will be blitzing local businesses over the next week for sponsorship.
