Eleven-day Cochrane carnival starts Friday

The 2023 Cochrane Winter Carnival is set to go.

Community services director Jason Boyer says it starts on Friday with a bonspiel at the curling club, and the snow box derby on the Queen Elizabeth Park sliding hill.

Then Saturday, snowmobile drag races take place on Lake Commando, operated by a group of volunteers.

“They’ve been setting up the track all week,” Boyer notes, “working on getting everything ready to roll for Saturday morning.”

The adult drags go Saturday, youth on Sunday.

The traditional torchlight parade is next Thursday night, February 16th.

Boyer says as always, it leaves from two locations and meets up at the Commando Pavilion for a bonfire and fireworks.

“We hope to see the whole community out and enjoying those festivities. We also have the Lions Club giving out hot chocolate and hot dogs that night.”

The full list of activities is on the carnival’s website and Facebook page. Boyer says printed pamphlets are also available at local businesses.
