Cochrane history: Volunteer medal to local man

We go back a decade for this week’s Cochrane history feature, and the presentation of a medal to Paul Latondress in 2013.

As library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore relates, it was presented by then-Lieutenant Governor David Onley.

“The LG Volunteer Medal was presented in appreciation for Paul’s long hours of volunteering at the Polar Bear Habibit and Heritage Village since it originally opened in 2004,” says Proulx-Chedore. “Paul is very modest and says volunteering is just something that he has been doing all of his life.”

Paul Latondress is known for many things around Cochrane, including ownership at one time of the Empire Theatre, and the Cinequois Theatre in Iroquois Falls.

Thanks to Ardis Proulx-Chedore and the public library for its help with our history features.
