Columbia Forest Products is reopening its veneer plant in Rutherglen. It closed down about five years ago during the recession. The company is investing about 1.5-million dollars U.S. in the facility. They have plans to reopen it in spring 2016. The plant will be making birch, maple and red oak hardwood veneer. It’s unclear if this will spark other investments into the forestry sector in the Northeast, such as towns like Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls which had two mills close in their communities.
