Validus Power says progress being made on projects in region

The CEO of Validus Power Corporation says he’s pleased with the progress being made at both the Iroquois Falls and Kapuskasing projects. Todd Shortt says that by April at the earliest, the Kap co-generation plant will send power to the grid.

“Ya but it’s those projecting that we will be about 6,000 megawatts short in 2025 and I think 8,000 megawatts short in 2027 and it gets substantially worse from there,” he said. “So the power plants like these are in high demand to supply the much needed power that’s going to be needed.”

Shortt says workers were able to prepare some of the large Iroquois Falls data centre site before winter arrived. He adds that it’s difficult to pour concrete when it hits 30 below.

“Prepped the site and did all the civil work,” he said. “It’s 150 acres, I believe and we have prepped about 100 acres of it. We did all of our civil work and soil work, pretty much ready to go and as soon as the spring starts, we’ll start on the fabrication side.”

He adds that data centres for both Kapuskasing and Iroquois Falls should be running at the same time, but he wouldn’t elaborate when that would be.
