Parade, Festival of Lights kick off Christmas season in Cochrane

The Christmas season arrives in Cochrane Thursday night with the annual parade at 6:00pm, following the lighting of the Christmas tree outside St. Paul’s United Church at 5:30.

Director of community services Jason Boyer says also underway is the third annual Festival of Lights.

“That is basically our community showcasing their Christmas displays at their house and their light displays,” he says. “We like to promote that and show the rest of the community the great work that people are doing.”

You can enter with community services staff at the Event Centre, or by emailing [email protected] .  The photo of your display will be posted on Facebook and the most likes wins you a prize.

First prize is a $250 gift card from Canadian Tire, and a free swimming pool rental for a family event. Boyer says second prize is a gift card without the pool rental.

“The festival’s)  been growing every year and we’re quite excited about it and I already see some nice displays out there,” adds Boyer, “so I hope we can continue to grow that festive spirit in our community and showcase it.”

The deadline to enter is December 13th. Winners will be announced on the 16th.
