Work begins on snowmobile trails, but don’t start using them yet, president asks

The Polar Bear Riders Snowmobile Club from Cochrane doesn’t waste any time working on its trails.

President Kenny Johnston says following the two inches of rain Thursday night and three inches of snow on the weekend, a work party was out laying the base.

“It’s better than fluffy snow so yeah, once it freezes hard, it should help start the season for sure.”

Johnston says please don’t ride on the trails until they’re officially open. That will be sometime after the first of December

“We don’t start the groomers ‘til December 1st, per direction from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs,” he explains. “And it all depends on snow. We like to have at least a good foot of snow before we start the groomers.”

Latest information and an opportunity to volunteer to help keep the trails in shape all winter are available on the Polar Bear Riders’ Facebook page.
