Politis’s analysis of his win over Clement: Progressive development over austerity

Former two-term Cochrane mayor Peter Politis has handily defeated incumbent Denis Clement to reclaim the job.  Politis more than doubled Clement in voting in Monday’s municipal election.

Politis says the clear mandate is a sign that voters experienced his progressive development approach and, the last four years, a  very different one.

“And then have gone to the austerity approach to see if that would lower taxes and costs and resoundingly have decided to go back to being a progressive, vibrant force in the community and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it,” he tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com.

He adds that the austerity approach actually raised costs and the municipal debt. He sees his first task is to get all of council moving in a progressive way.

“And then from there, we’ll join all of the good folks at the Town Hall who are all professionals and who are all proud of their community, and looking at creating a governance model where you serve to community and we drive a progressive outlook and we look at maintaining costs and taxes at the end of the day, while continuing to bring money back to our community.”
