For a first time effort, voting on the internet for the municipal election in Cochrane is catching on.
Municipal clerk Alice Mercier says that combined with telephone voting and advance polls at Cadence Residence and Villa Minto, 21% of voters have already voted as of Wednesday morning. Total participation in 2018 was 49%.
Actual paper ballot polls will be at the Tim Horton Event Centre on Monday. But counting might take longer than usual. Mercier says that’s because automatic tabulators can’t be used.
“Our ballots weren’t printed properly and when we did the testing of the tabulators, the tabulators couldn’t read the ballots.
“We won’t be using the tabulators to do the ballot count. So at the end of Election Day, we’ll be doing manual counting of the ballots.”
