Seniors need to register for snow shovelling service in Iroquois Falls and Cochrane

The snow shovelling service offered to seniors in Iroquois Falls and Cochrane by the Red Cross in past years is now coordinated by Timmins-based Access Better Living.

Executive director Carol MacKinnon says the same contractor is involved, but he has instituted a minimum number of people needing the service.

“So to make his quota” she notes,” he needs 30 clients between Cochrane and Iroquois Falls combined.”

It’s for people 60 and over who are physically unable to clear their driveways, paths or steps. To register, call 705-268-2240 ext. 218 and speak to Jennifer Welch, coordinator of home maintenance and home support. It’s subsidized, but you still must pay $22.50 per occurrence.

MacKinnon says her organization has also taken over personal care programs in Cochrane and the Falls and is in desperate need of PSWs.

“There are many people that are waiting for services, and we really need personal support workers to work in the communities,” she concludes.

Again, contact Access Better Living.
