It’s only September, but never too early to start organizing the Miss Chimo Pageant for the Cochrane Winter Carnival in February.
Princess pageant committee secretary-treasurer Sue Girard says the second of two nights of registration is tonight (Tues.) from 7:00 until 9:00 at her home, 285 Third Avenue.
“Because we’ve been having more of a hard time getting the older kids, a couple years ago, we started a Junior Miss Chimo also,” Girard notes.
Miss Chimo is for girls in Grades 9 to 12. Junior Miss Chimo is Grades 6, 7 and 8.
Girard says if there aren’t eight participants in each, they could try registration again. She admits it’s been getting tougher attracting participants, in these days of equality.
“We’re finding that with the older kids and that’s why we started it with the Junior,” Girard explains, “because we’d hate to see Cochrane not have a representative for carnival for Miss Chimo.”
Between now and late January, contestants will be prepared for the big night on things like walking, interviews, a speech to judges and their competitors, and a test about Cochrane.
