Hey, Cochrane: Here comes pickleball

The fastest growing sport in Ontario the past ten years is about to make its debut in Cochrane.

Pickleball will be played Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Commando Pavilion.

Director of community services Jason Boyer says it’s low impact. Equipment will be supplied… as will instruction for the first few weeks.

“Court size is about a third the size of a tennis court, which makes it more appealing to people that want to stay fit but don’t want to overexert themselves either,” he explains, adding that it’s similar to tennis.

“It’s played with a paddle. It’s a perforated hollow polymer ball and it’s over a 36” net, typical net of a badminton.”

Boyer all you need is a good pair of running shoes. Each session will cost you $5.00.  You can buy a 12-session pass for $50.00 at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
