UPDATE THURS., SEPT. 29: Louvelle says the event will be livestreamed on the Board of Trade Facebook page.
The Cochrane Board of Trade has set next Thursday, September 29th as a chance for voters to hear directly from the candidates for mayor and town councillor.
President Frank Louvelle will moderate the event.
“I want to make sure this is unbiased as possible,” he tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com. “One format I’m doing is basically randomly selection questions that are pre-approved and that will be specific for one candidate, then others will get a chance to respond.”
Those written questions can be submitted online or on the night of the meeting. Louvelle says if time permits, questions from the floor will be allowed.
Louvelle answers with a very emphatic “Absolutely not” when asked if his group will endorse any candidates. He notes the board is apolitical.
“The whole point of this evening is to give the community an opportunity to hear the visions of the different candidates and their plans to address our issues and opportunities, and also a chance for maybe for the candidates to learn a little bit about some important issues in the community.”
The meet the candidates session is next Thursday at 7:00pm at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
