It’s a big night at the Event Centre in Cochrane Friday night.
Cochrane Crunch marketing and communications manager Gina Nickolau reminds us that it’s the home opener for the junior hockey team, playing the Timmins Rock at 7:00pm.
“Our home opener is focussed and dedicated to the Cochrane Food Bank,” she adds.
There is no admission charge. However, you’re asked to donate cash or a non-perishable food item.
“We will have representatives from the Cochrane Food Bank present,” says Nickolau, “and they’ll be able to issue tax receipts for those who are donating money and also boxes to be able to collect food.”
Nickolau suggests a good cash donation would be the equivalent of what you normally pay for admission.
An opening ceremony will feature major team sponsor, Agnico Eagle Mines.
“Their vice-president will be present, dropping the puck. We will be introducing all our players as well.” There are only four players back from last year’s roster.
