Take Back the Night Walk on Monday

An event this coming Monday night in Cochrane is not a fundraiser — it’s an awareness raiser.

The Take Back the Night walk is being organized by Amy Levesque the community outreach worker with Habitat Interlude.

She says it’s all about awareness of sexual and domestic violence, among other forms of violence.

A guest speaker will talk about its prevalence.

“They can talk more about the statistics here in Cochrane,” she says, “but domestic violence is not really seen in the public eye.”

Levesque agrees that it’s hidden behind closed doors.

“Yeah, it’s more common than everyone would think.”

The walk goes rain or shine, starting at the Commando Pavilion and going around the lake via Sixth Avenue.  It’s for all ages to walk, run or bike.

“Everything is free for the public,” Levesque notes, “so glow sticks, T-shirts, gift bags, fruits, food, juice, water. We’ll also have a participation draw.” She won’t disclose yet what the prize is.
