Politis wants back in as Cochrane mayor

After losing by five votes in 2018, former Cochrane mayor Peter Politis is trying to regain the seat in the October election. Politis was mayor from 2010 to 2018, then lost to Denis Clement.

He says over the past month, he and other civic leaders have been working on getting a slate of progressive candidates for council They found a lot to be councillors, but not mayor.

“After a lot of conversation, fingers kept coming back my way and at some point,” he tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com, “we just made the responsible decision to decide ‘hey, look, it’s the best thing to go forward.’”

Despite what he calls his active consulting practice, Politis says he’s in the election race 100%, or he wouldn’t be in it at all.

A major platform plank is community engagement to move Cochrane forward… not leaving everything to council.

“Our job as a council isn’t to get in the way of people and over-regulate and tell people what to do,” he states. “It’s to create a path forward for those folks to accomplish what they can do and then just get out of their way.”

Politis also wants to make it easier for people to talk to council and town hall.
