Angus borrows British idea to stop high gas prices

Timmins-James Bay New Democratic MP Charlie Angus is borrowing an idea from the UK… trying to get our federal government to act against what he calls gouging at the gas pump.

“The British Conservative government is throwing a windfall tax of 25% on the oil companies in the UK and they’re putting that money back,” he states. “It’ll be 19-billion pounds that’s going back to help people get through this time.”

Angus adds that the big grocery companies are also making huge profits while people can’t afford to go to work and feed their families. He says says big oil must get the message that it’s not worthwhile gouging Canadians at the pumps.

“We know prices may stay up. But what we also know is that they are using fears of inflation, fears of war to massively increase profit.”

In addition, Angus wants a parliamentary investigation into price gouging.
