Aboriginal housing info session next week

An information session on home ownership and home repair financing is being offered in Cochrane next week by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services.

Programs coordinator Andrea Helferty says it’s on Tuesday, July 12th at the Ininew Friendship Centre.

“The home ownership program is a program that we have to help people with down payment and closing cost assistance,” says Helferty. “The home repair program is for people who already own a home. We do have a maximum of $25,000.”

This is for off-reserve housing only, and there are rules concerning cost and the state of your financial affairs.

“You don’t have to be Status, but you just have to declare that you are Indigenous,” Helferty states. “So again, that’s Métis, Inuit or First Nation.”

More information in advance of the Tuesday session is available via email at [email protected]; by calling 1-866-391-1061 or on the website, www.ontarioaboriginalhousing.ca .
