Jackpine Snowmobile Club busy in summer raising money to buy a snowmobile

Even in the summer, the Jackpine Snowmobile Club is working to improve the winter recreational activity.

The Iroquois Falls-based club is raising $15,000 by September to buy a snowmobile. Director Carmen Girard says it can be a used machine, but fairly new.

“We need a dependable machine if the groomer breaks down in a remote area and someone needs to go retrieve the operator,” she explains.

The machine will also be put to work during trail-packing and brushing operations.

Girard says two small businesses have already donated $1,000 each, and a snowmobiler from Toronto has contributed $250.

You can mail your donation to the Jackpine Snowmobile Club, Box 1111, Iroquois Falls ON P0K 1G0 or call or text Girard at 705-232-0583. She says any amount from $5.00 up is accepted.

“We will also have a table at Day in the Park on Friday with more awareness and we will accept donations there,” she adds. “We have made a board that we have up in town with a thermometer to show our progress.”

The club is also approaching mines and contractors in the area, asking them to help out.
