‘Slip failure’ forces Monteith Rd. closure

Travelling between Iroquois Falls and Monteith right now means going around by Porquis.

Monteith Rd. is closed between Moffat Rd. and Railway Ave., right in the village of Monteith.  That’s because of what’s called “a slip failure” about 1.5km north of Driftwood Lane.

It’s basically a landslide off the side of the road.

Iroquois Falls public works director Joel Cyr says the road will be closed until an engineer can assess the damage and determine what repairs are necessary.

Monteith Rd. is the former Hwy. 577.  It was downloaded from the province to the municipality in the mid 1990s.
