Home alone: A how-to workshop June 25

Your kids are counting down the number of days until summer holidays start, and the Cochrane Public Library is jumping in to help with kids who will be home alone for the first time.

Program services coordinator Hillary Meaden says that on Saturday, June 25th between 9:00am and 2:00pm, there’s a home alone workshop. It’s for kids who turn ten or older this year.

Meaden says one thing it will teach is devising a home-alone routine.

“They might be home alone in the morning or they might be home alone at night,” she acknowledges. “So establishing for example a schedule will hopefully provide a little less anxiety, because you know what to expect when you get home.”

Among many other topics is what to expect when you’re alone.

“For example,” says Meaden, “we’re getting rain so if there’s a thunderstorm, what to do them. So just preparing them as much as you possibly can to make being home alone less scary.”

Registration is $20.00 and can be done online or at the library. And really cool part: All participants get an iconic badge depicting Macaulay Culkin when his character in the famous movie realizes that he’s “Home Alone”.
