Board of Trade sets up candidates night

As an apolitical body, the Cochrane Board of Trade still follows issues, and will be putting some of them to the eight people vying to be the next MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane.

President Frank Louvelle says the public get-together is Thursday at 7:00pmat the Commando Pavilion.

He says Cochrane is poised for growth, and needs the candidates to address the major issues.

“One of the first important issues is the rising cost,” Louvelle states. “That’s going to affect our lives immensely in a lot of ways up here. Lack of affordable housing is a key issue right now for us.”

The skilled labour shortage and the condition of our highways are also on Louvelle’s list, as is access to health care.

“Cochrane – as you may or may not be aware – we have on practicing family physician right now,” he points out. “So that’s an important issue for our growth and to maintain our health care actually in the area.”

Business owners will be able to ask the candidates about their concerns that Louvelle and his board might not have thought of.
