‘One way or the other,’ tourist info sign will return: Cochrane Board of Trade president

The president of the Cochrane Board of Trade is ending the ongoing tug-of-war between his group and the municipality over a tourist information sign at the town’s entrance.

Frank Louvelle says the sign directing visitors to the board’s building was removed when the new Cochrane sign was installed.  The town promised to put it back up but hasn’t, despite several requests.

“As far as I’m concerned,” Louvelle states, “when you make a commitment, you should follow through with it.”

He says the Board of Trade doesn’t have a lot of money, but will find a way to put the sign back up.

“Because of the height of the sign, it’s going to require some engineering, I’m being told,” remarks the president. “So there is a bit of extra cost as opposed to some of the other signs that would go up there.” Preliminary estimates go as high as $5,000.”

The project requires engineering and equipment.  Louvelle says it’s not too late for the town to do the work, seeing as it probably has the expertise and machinery in-house.

“Yeah, they do and we’d love for them to help us, but I’m through with begging. We’re going to get it up there, one way or the other.”
