Iroquois Falls woman starts campaign to bolster local food bank stock

Laura Thomas is taking to heart the saying “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem”, as she mounts a campaign to bolster food bank supplies in Iroquois Falls.

Thomas appreciates the work done by the owners of the New and Used Shop in maintaining somewhat of a food bank.  But the user of it and food banks in other communities says perishables and proteins are rarely available.

“Sometimes if you’re lucky and you hit the right day, you’ll get milk,” she remarks. “Once I got eggs.”

She’s hoping that others will step up to help find food donation drop-off locations, and other help improving the food bank. “Things don’t come to you, as with anything in life, unless you go out and ask.”

Thomas says it starts with likeminded people. “A lot of it is grunt work. It’s moving the food. It’s making phone calls. It’s going in and asking for help.”
