The effects of the lockdown on Cochrane municipal services and facilities

The impending lockdown due to the Omicron strain of COVID-19 will affect municipal services in Cochrane – to quote the mayor – “drastically.”

Denis Clement says facilities like town hall, the daycare centre, and the Tim Horton Events Centre will be closed, with as many employees as possible working from home. Outdoor work such as clearing snow from streets will continue. And the Commando Pavilion will be closed to public events.

“Although the Pavilion is being 100% utilized for the Porcupine Health Unit for the vaccination clinic, so that will remain,” Clement is quick to add.

The outdoor rink at the Tim Horton Events Centre will still be available, although the mayor says the centre itself will be closed.

“I know there’s a few people that clear some snow off the ice at the Lake Commando,” the mayor adds, “and I’m sure they’ll be available for young people to have some exercise.”

The winter carnival will be reevaluated in a couple weeks. Mayor Clement says organizers are focussing right now on outdoor events.  Indoor events, he says, will be a bonus.
