Retired teachers support South Centennial Manor gardening project

Retired teachers in our area have given South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls $2,500.

RTO district president Kathy Johnson says the group provides money every year for community projects.  Last year, it went to Cochrane’s Villa Minto for materials for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

This year is Iroquois Falls’ turn.

“Our local representative there, Molly Boudhreau contacted the Manor and asked what they would like,” explains Johnson. “And they asked for a gardening project that they felt would enhance the lives of all the residents but particularly those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

Raised beds for flowers and vegetables have already been built.

“Because we saved money during the pandemic on mileage and whatnot,” Johnson adds, “ we were also able to give $1,400 to the nursing home in Matheson and we are currently reaching out to the nursing home in Smooth Rock Falls.”
