Angus turns his attention to energy transition in new NDP critic role

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is the new NDP critic for natural resources, and says energy transition away from fossil fuels is a top priority.

“The clock is ticking on us right now and we’ve got to get serious about we’re facing,” he comments.

Angus says he’s anxious to get going in his new role, considering the need for that transition.
“The world markets are changing,” he notes. “Canada has an opportunity to be a leader or a loser in this. And the losers will be works and communities if we don’t get a coherent, credible plan for the energy transition.”

Angus adds that this weekend’s COP26 summit in Scotland will put enormous pressure on the Trudeau government, for making a lot of promises but not delivering.

“We have the expertise here. We have great ideas. There is no place in the world better or more able to deliver a renewable energy economy than Canada. So let’s get down to work and be a leader in this field, and not a loser.”
