INVASIVE SPECIES ACT PASSES

The Invasive Species Act has received Royal Ascent and could help with Hogweed and contaminated fire wood cases in the Northeast.  The new legislation could come into effect within a year, giving organizations like the MNR more teeth when protecting our wildlife and ecology.  From the Ministry of Natural Resources, Jolanta Kowalski says the act will help the province deal with invasive species faster and more efficiently.  Over the summer cases of Hogweed were reported, legislation like this will make the MNR more decisive in removing such threats.
