Traffic stop, drug bust in Cochrane

What started out as a traffic stop just after midnight Saturday in Cochrane turned into a drug bust.

OPP pulled a car over on Fifth St., when the driver was recognized as the subject of a warrant.  Officers say he was in possession of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.

A subsequent search of a home netted several other illegal drugs, guns, and cash.  The drugs are thought to be worth about $35,000.

The suspect is a 30-year-old Cochrane man.

The charges against him:

  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) (Two Counts), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (Other than Heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Five Counts), contrary to section 91(1) of the CC
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (Two Counts), contrary to section 92(2) of the CC
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
