Temporary measure to avoid running into disaster near the yellow bars

In a  temporary measure so that  – in the words of Cochrane Mayor Denis Clement — “we don’t run into disaster” – amber flashing lights are going up near the yellow bars.

That’s where Railway St. becomes Twelfth Ave., and a lot of small vehicles share the road with large trucks from the forestry and mining industries.

The mayor says the lights will be there until a truck bypass is built.

“The community has been advocating for a truck bypass as long as I’ve been in Cochrane, and that’s over 40 years,” he observes. “I’m happy to report that the Ministry of Transportation has approved the bypass. We’ll be looking at the environmental assessment this coming fall and winter and then hopefully with some construction in the next few years.”

Among the deficiencies in the road right along Lake Commando is its narrowness.
