You can’t argue with Timmins and District Hospital Foundation executive director Jason Laneville, on the success of the first year of its monthly 50-50 draw.
“I would not have thought a year ago that we would be talking about raising six million dollars,” he states emphatically.
Half of that has gone out in prizes, the other half to equipment and infrastructure upgrades at the hospital.
Laneville acknowledges that the jackpot dipped in August to only $186,000. But he says it was the same for all 50-50 draws across the region.
“I think that’s just typical August,” he suggests. “People are travelling, nice weather. I think moving forward, September on, we’re going to be back on track for the $25,000 average jackpot.”
Laneville says tickets are bought right across the region and all over Ontario.
